함께 걸으면서 수다도 떱시다: 정동 챕터
시티 위딘 더 시티, 아트선재 전시 프로그램, 서울 2011
정동 일대는 20 세기 초반 대한제국의 심장부이자 1896년 고종이 아관파천을 하면서서울의 근대 도시 국가로의 이행을 위한 국제적인 정치작업이 시작된 한국 근대사의시작 지점이다. 당시 인천 제물포 항구에 외국 물자가 도착하면 한강 양화진 나루터를 거쳐 정동으로 이동되었다고 한다. 이 여정을 추적했던 이주영의 <패밀리 마트소셜>은 제물포(인천), 양화진에서 진행된 바 있으며 이번 <함께 걸으면서 수다도 떱시다:정동 챕터>에서는 덕수궁 대한문을 시작으로 미국 대사관저, 러시아 공사관 옛터, 중명전, 정동 제일교회, 배재학당 등을 함께 걸으면서 정동의 역사, 건축과 도시설계에 관련된 숨은 이야기들을 캐내보고자 한다.

Jeong-dong is the historical diplomatic quarter in Seoul. The heart of the Daehan Empire from 1897 to 1910, the stories and international intrigues witnessed by this culturally and historically layered 'city within a city' are woven into the early 20th century architecture and layout. Let’ start from Deoksugung Palace. Walking and chatting together, let's construct a more engaged connection to the architecture and history from Daehanmun, passing through the US Ambassador’s residence, the Old Russian Legation, Jungmyeongjeon Hall, all the way to Jeongdong First Methodist Church, Pae Jae Hak dang.
